International Self-Care Day is July 24. It’s a day when people around the world are encouraged to focus on themselves with a bit of self-care. The focus is to encourage and support efforts of general health and wellness that begins with the individual.

Self-Care Awareness Month is a time to remind ourselves about the importance of taking care of ourselves. We often neglect self-care in our daily lives — especially caretakers who devote an abundance of attention and time to their loved ones in hospice or palliative care.

Self-Care Tips for Hospice Caregivers

Prayer or Meditation

Use your free time for prayer or meditation. Even a quick meditation session can help de-stress and clear your mind. Incorporate some light stretches to feel good and energized!

Find Resources

There are many resources available for caretakers.  In-person support groups and online communities, etc. can be extremely beneficial to help you feel less isolated, connecting you with others in similar situations and forging new friendships with people who you can talk to and lean on during the most trying of times.

Take Advantage of Respite Services

We will send a skilled caregiver to stay with your loved one so you can take a couple of hours for yourself to exercise, run a few errands, get your nails done, etc. No matter what you need to check off your self-care to-do list, we are more than happy to tend to your loved one and keep him/her safe — whether it is on a regular or occasional basis.

It is important to remember,  we are here for you and want to make this journey as simple as possible for you and your family. Please do not hesitate to reach out. We welcome a chat about the many ways we can help alleviate some stress.
